You're preparing the land.
This is the slow, foundational work — living soil, banked carbon, engineered water. None of it shows a yield in week one, but everything downstream leans on it. Start here and the whole shelf gets easier.
You're growing the green.
You've got ground to work with and you're chasing your first real harvests — microgreens on the counter, beds on the balcony, herbs by the door. This is where a homestead starts to feed you back. Keep a close record and every crop teaches the next.
You're raising the flock.
Animals have entered the system, and with them a whole new kind of bookkeeping — hatch dates, hive notes, bloodlines, weights. Genetics become data; weight becomes truth. A ledger by the coop or the hive is worth more than any memory.
You're processing the harvest.
