Cookie Policy

The small files we use to run the site and understand how it's used — and how you stay in control.

Last updated · June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how The Steading Codex (Web Production Labs LLC) uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

1 · What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your device. "Similar technologies" include local storage and pixels. They let a site remember actions and preferences, and help us understand usage.

2 · Categories we use

Strictly necessary

Required for the site to work — security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choice. These don't need consent and can't be switched off here.

Analytics (optional)

We use PostHog, Google Analytics 4, and Microsoft Clarity to understand which pages and features (such as the flipbook preview) people use, so we can improve the site. Clarity also records anonymized session replays with sensitive fields masked. These load only after you accept, where consent is required.

Marketing / email (optional)

If you subscribe to our newsletter, Omnisend may set cookies or use pixels to measure email engagement. These load only with consent where required.

Affiliate attribution

If you arrive through an affiliate link, we remember the referral so the right affiliate is credited: a ?ref value is stored in your browser's localStorage (sc_aff_ref) for 60 days, and GoAffPro sets attribution cookies (ref, gfp_*) with a 60-day window. Partner landing pages (/go/…) additionally set a first-party cookie (sc_ref) for 60 days so we know which partner recommended us. These are used only to attribute affiliate commissions.

3 · Third parties that may set cookies

  • PostHog — product analytics.
  • Google Analytics 4 — traffic + cross-domain analytics.
  • Microsoft Clarity — usage analytics, heatmaps, masked session replay.
  • Omnisend — email marketing.
  • GoAffPro — affiliate referral attribution (ref, gfp_*; 60 days).
  • Shopify — checkout, cart, and payment on our store.
  • Vercel — hosting and security.
  • Amazon — if you follow a link to buy a printed edition, Amazon applies its own cookies.

Durations vary by provider, from the length of your session up to roughly 12 months.

4 · Your choices

When we load non-essential analytics, visitors in the EEA and UK are shown a consent banner and can accept or decline non-essential cookies; declining means analytics and marketing cookies are not set. (Strictly-necessary cookies and affiliate attribution needed to run the store still apply.) You can also control cookies through your browser settings (block or delete them) — though strictly-necessary cookies are needed for the site to function. To change a prior choice, clear this site's cookies and reload.

5 · Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for it yet; we honor cookie choices made through our banner and your browser settings.

6 · Changes

We may update this policy as our tools change; the "last updated" date above will reflect that.
